Salary: $65,000 – $70,000 annually

The Legacy of Hope Foundation is a national Indigenous-led, charitable organization founded in 2000 with the goal of educating and raising awareness about the history and many impacts of the Residential School System. These include the direct and ongoing impacts on First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Survivors, their communities, and their descendants. Our mission is to educate towards creating just and equal relationships of Reconciliation and healing for all Canadians, to expand awareness of and access to the rich legacy of the contributions of Indigenous Peoples in Canada and the world, and to make known the histories of injustices.

Working in partnership with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples, communities, and organizations, governmental agencies, educational institutions and teachers, small to large businesses and others across the country to develop educational materials, commemoration projects, and research initiatives that support our mission.

Position Summary: The Manager of Education will be responsible for overall program development, administration, and supervision of the education programs for schools and extra- curricular venues. The Manager is responsible for the development and dissemination of curriculum and of other educational materials. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager of Education is responsible for the successful delivery of the Legacy of Hope Foundation (LHF) Education Program and Education Departmental Team, ensuring consistent achievement of LHF’s mission and strategic objectives. In implementing the strategic direction set by the Board, the Manager of Education will work collaboratively with the other Managers of the organization.

Role and Responsibilities

SERVICE DELIVERY and SUPERVISION:

•Oversee the development and execution of educational programming and curriculum development consistent with LHF mission and vision.

•Ensure the development of appropriate curriculum plans. Foster the educational experience via hands-on, developmentally appropriate and highly interactive methods, which are also consistent with code of content and which are culturally appropriate.

•Supervise and motivate staff and volunteers in order to develop, facilitate, and deliver programming.

•Work throughout the year with your Team, supervising and providing feedback, including providing Staff with performance updates, and annual Evaluations.

•Develop or coordinate professional development, in-service, and curriculum support workshops opportunities for teachers and other educational personnel.

Coordinate consultations with Elders, Knowledge Keepers and community members on new product development and other projects to ensure that we are including culture respectfully, as dictated by programs and projects.

PARTNERSHIPS, OUTREACH, COMMUNITY AND SCHOOL RELATIONSHIP DEVELOPMENT

  • Facilitate partnerships with appropriate public and private agencies that provide services to students and to public servants to deliver programming and to help position LHF as a community resource. Participate on local and national committees or meetings related to education, as necessary.
  • Work with program staff and volunteers to conduct ongoing outreach at schools and in community, including classroom presentations, guest workshops, and at relevant events.

    REPORTING, ADMINISTRATION, EVALUATION

  • Develop and maintain records needed for project administration.
  • Monitor project budget, provide needed information for financial reporting.
  • Prepare information for funder reports.
  • Be responsible for applying to not less than 10-15 proposals a year to assist in securing funding

    for the department.

  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
  • Work with other Managers to prepare monthly, interim and annual reports, as required.

    Knowledge Requirements

  • Required education: Post-Secondary Diploma/Certificate (or equivalent experience)
  • Good knowledge and understanding of Indigenous Peoples in Canada, their cultures, histories,

    and traditions, including the history of Residential and Day Schools and its existing impacts on

    Survivors and their families;

  • Excellent understanding and knowledge of key social justice issues impacting Indigenous

    Peoples.
